APPLICATION PROCESS FOR PROSPECTIVE
FOSTER CARE AND ADOPTIVE PARENTS
I. TELEPHONE INQUIRY
Call the San Francisco Department of Social Services
Homefinding Intake
Number 558 2200. You will receive information regarding
the process and
you will be asked basic information regarding your
household for licensing
purposes.
II. INVITATION TO ATTEND A GENERAL ORIENTATION MEETING
You will receive an Invitation to attend the next
Orientation meeting (usually
every 2nd Thursday of the month), and you will receive
information about the
State required fingerprints needed on each member
of the household age 18
and older.
III. ORIENTATION MEETING
At this meeting you will hear information about
the foster care system, the
fost/adopt program, the training classes, and licensing
regulations. Time is
allowed at the end of the meeting to ask specific
questions. Fingerprints
can be completed at this meeting. If applicants
would like to continue the
process, they complete an Interest Form which is
handed in at the end of the
meeting.
IV. HOME VISIT
A home visit is made to each person that filled
out an Interest Form. This
worker will address general licensing questions
and answer questions about
the process or the foster care stystem. If the
licensing question is about the
home itself, we may ask a Licensing Worker to meet
with you directly to
address this, prior to you entering the 7 week training.
V. CONTACT WITH THE AGENCY
The Child Welfare Worker who does the home visit
will be your contact person
with the Agency until you are scheduled to attend
class.
VI. TRAINING AND LICENSING
The Recruitment Unit will contact you to schedule
you for the 7 week training.
If you cannot attend the training, please call and
let us know ahead of time so
that we can reschedule you.
While attending training classes, the licensing process
and study of the home
are initiated. Upon completion of this process,
homes are licensed and able
to accept children for foster care and/or fost-adopt.
