About Cheryl Deaner Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist #36764

I first became involved in the issues around considering parenthood when my partner and I joined a "Considering Parenthood" group at Lyon Martin Health Services in San Francisco in 1988. Later, I began facilitating groups for Lyon Martin and various other organizations.

While a graduate student studying to be a therapist, I continued my interest in families by founding the Alternative Family Project, the nation's first family clinic for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered families. During this time I counseled many families and learned first-hand about the issues that affect growing families.

After graduation I became executive director of Our Family Coalition, a SF Bay Area non-profit organization promoting the social, legal and educational needs of families with lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender members, (www.ourfamily.org).

When I received my license as a Marriage and Family Therapist seven years ago, I went into private practice as a therapist in San Francisco, and have worked with individuals, couples and families ever since. I still enjoy facilitating Considering Parenthood groups several times a year.

For a therapy appointment or to join a Considering Parenthood Group, please feel free to call or email me anytime.

Other qualifications: I received my Masters Degree from San Francisco State University in both Marriage and Family Therapy and Rehabilitation Counseling and was licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist in 2000. My advanced studies have included family systems, psychoanalytic psychotherapy and drug and alcohol abuse counseling.
